This page explains what independent licensed providers generally consider, and who these medications are not appropriate for. It cannot tell you whether you qualify — only a provider reviewing your full health history can do that.
A medical decision, not a checkbox.
Eligibility for prescription weight-loss treatment is not a threshold you either clear or do not. A provider looks at the whole picture: your health history, your current medications, previous experience with GLP-1 treatment, and what you are trying to achieve.
Two people with identical height and weight can receive different answers, because the rest of their history differs. This is why the assessment asks about more than your measurements, and why a real provider reads it before anything is prescribed.
It is also why "no" is a legitimate outcome. Screening exists to catch the cases where prescription treatment would not be a good idea, and a provider declining to prescribe is that system working correctly.
What a provider typically weighs
None of these is a guarantee of eligibility, and this list is not exhaustive. It is what commonly comes up in a consultation arranged through LuneRx.
- You are 18 or older. The assessment asks for your date of birth early on, and stops there if you are under 18.
- You live in a state where the independent licensed providers we work with are licensed, and where a state-licensed partner pharmacy is permitted to ship.
- Your weight and health history are consistent with the clinical criteria the reviewing provider applies for medically guided weight loss.
- You are able to describe your current medications and supplements accurately, so interactions can be assessed.
- You are willing to attend check-ins, since dosing is adjusted over time rather than set once.
- You understand that medication is one part of a plan that also involves nutrition, movement, and sleep.
Reasons a provider may decline
These are among the circumstances in which GLP-1 treatment is generally not prescribed. The assessment screens for several of them up front, and a provider covers the rest with you during the consultation. Any one may mean a provider declines. Discuss your own history with a qualified professional rather than drawing conclusions from this list.
- You are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive.
- You have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.
- You have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide, tirzepatide, or another GLP-1 medication.
- You have a history of pancreatitis, or current gallbladder disease.
- You have significant kidney or liver disease.
- You have an active eating disorder, or a history of one that treatment could aggravate.
- You take other medications that would interact unsafely, which is why a full medication list matters.
How the answer actually gets made
The assessment takes about two minutes. It opens with your goal, then asks the state you live in and your date of birth, then your measurements, then a short health-history screen. Nothing is prescribed at this stage — you are requesting an evaluation.
An independent licensed provider then reviews what you submitted. If they need more information, they will ask. If treatment is appropriate, they write a prescription and a state-licensed partner pharmacy prepares and ships it. If it is not appropriate, they will tell you.
You will not be charged for a medication that is never prescribed, and completing an assessment does not commit you to anything.
